Across Amed beach, Bali

Road trip around the land of Amed via Motorcycle is the best. I was thankful that the weather was soothing that very day. My driver bought me to a local temple and upon the flights of staircase, I was greeted by beautiful Mount Agung. I miss sitting at the stairs overlooking Mount Agung.

I love traveling so much that I am planning on long term after finishing my Diploma and my bond with Singapore General Hospital(SGH) of 2 years. I do not know where to start with the plan. Money definitely is one of the factors that I felt is blocking my way. But I believe that by working with SGH for 2 years, I would be able to save enough money for traveling of at least 1 year or more. But how am I suppose to earn money and fund myself when I am traveling long term is what I am considering. I am starting my travel blog but I am still lost with it...

Week 1 blogging

I started blogging on 28 Dec 2014.
It had being a week.
I am really thankful that I had views from all around the world even though I had just started for 1 week.

The little comments that was given to me in my post, I really appreciate it a lot.

I believe by starting up small, putting hell lots of effort in it, one day I will see results towards it!

As I had mentioned I am currently pursuing to be a full time traveler blogger upon graduating from nursing and working in the hospital for 2 years. The time given to me, I hope I can build up my site and improve as time goes by. I am still learning.

If you guys had any tips for me when it comes to being a traveler blogger or increasing my subscribers and traffic to my blog, do leave a comment or email me at phoebeyeohj@gmail.com

Thank you so much <3

First airbnb experience part 2

CONTINUE …

(4) Delicious breakfast : As mention, they provide breakfast. You can choose either banana pancake or omelets. Breakfast ( or rather all meals ) also accompanied with a plate of delicious fruits!
For lunch or dinner : You only had to fork out 75,000 rp each meal. The meals that Ayu cooked were really good especially her fried chicken which I always asked for during dinner time. You must at least try it once!

(5) You will gain a lot of knowledge of the Balinese culture : During my stay, the family were busy preparing for their GALUNGAN DAY which is really a big ceremony. Every household are busy preparing for it.

Helping out with the family with the decorations of the chamber and packing offerings for the god

I actually witness the slaughtering of a pig. Alright, I actually stood far away from the scene and back off even further when I heard the pig crying in pain as the knife slashed through the throat. After slaughtering it, they set the outer layer of the pig on fire till it burn the follicles leaving the clean fresh slimy skin of the pig that you see in the market. Afterwards, they divide the pig into the number of household that had fork out the money.

The meat bought are used to make satay for the ceremony. Peeling and cutting lots of chilli, onion, garlic and many more spices then marinating it with the pork and mincing it with a tuner which required a lot of strength and effort. They then taught me how to put the marinated minced meat onto a satay stick. It was hell lots of hard work.

(6) Affordable and less tourist tour

As I mentioned, I did not make any plans to hired any driver or plan to go to any places as I know Wayan actually do tours. You can go over to his tour webpage here. Tours price ranging are 300,000 - 600,000 rp which is affordable and even more cheap if you actually had the other travelers coming along with the tour. For example, the first day, I went to a tour with a family. So Wayan actually divide the tour into 3 adults head so for the trip to the monkey forest and waterfall, I only paid 200,000 rp.

The monkeys at UBUD CENTRAL are wild and aggressively. Tripadvisor had also mentioned that the monkeys would climbed over you and snatched away your items. Wayan bought us to SANGEH MONKEY FOREST and I was amazed because not only the monkeys are not wild and aggressive, there are really very few people and the place feels so magical and peaceful.

In my next post, I will be talking about the 2 tours that I opt for with Wayan. Do look out for it!

First AIRBNB experiences part 1

As mention from my previous post, I was looking for accommodations via AIRBNB with considerations of :
(1) Quiet and peaceful
(2) Not far away from the attractions
(3) Home stay
(4) UBUD area
(5) Free breakfast
(6) Price ranging from SGD$20-50
(7) Provide affordable airport pick up and drop off
(8) Provide affordable meals
(9) Able to engage in the balinese culture

Why is that so?
(1) It is only 15 minutes away from UBUD central and during the ride you will be passing by many lovely rice paddies and rice terraces. Magnificent view!

(2) The homestay is located at Taman Village. It feels like you are staying in the rainforest instead. And just 5 minutes walk down the road on the right upon the entrance, you will be presented with beautiful rice terraces and rice paddies. It is safe to walk alone around the village. Everybody here knows one another and the Balinese people are really nice! Just smile and say HI to them! But during the night time, Wayan make sure that you will be accompany by their sons!

During my first walk, I was accompany by Fido. He is a smart dog! When he saw me turing to the right, he knew right away that I was heading to the rice paddies and then he lead the way for me. I was surprised as I was wondering whether to follow him or not!

During the night, please asked somebody to bring you to the rice paddies because there are many fireflies! In Singapore, it is impossible to see one. And also look up into the sky as there are uncountable number of stars. I even manage to see shooting stars. ( The balinese people called it falling stars instead! )

(3) Accommodation : Everyday there will be a helper who help to clean the room and make the bed. The helpers are Wayan's relatives. Room and bed are clean. Towels smell goods! Hot and cold shower! There is no air-conditioning in the room. A ceiling fan and a standing fan is provided. And since the house is located at far back to the village, the place feels cool.

To be continued ... in part 2

Solo traveling to Bali Part 1

Female traveling solo to Bali

My first solo trip to Bali started as I need a getaway to heal me because I was breaking down and tearing apart due to friendship problems. I could not find anybody to travel with me so I decided to travel alone instead. I started reading blogs on experiences of female traveler traveling solo. Impulsively, I book my flight tickets as Singapore airline was having a sales of $293 for a return flight to Bali.

Then I started searching for accommodation. I was seeking for a home stay rather than hotel style. Got to admit, as I was searching for a home stay in trip advisor, I get paranoid even if there was 1 bad reviews out of the 45 review of the home stay. Eventually I gave up on trip advisor and started my search engine on Airbnb.

I was basically only looking for UBUD area. Reason being : EAT.PRAY.LOVE movie inspired me and I was looking for a less tourist area. I wanted peace to heal me. I hate being in a area filled with clubs and pubs. UBUD is filled with greens.

Upon looking at 300++ searches and of price ranging from $20-$50, I choose to stay with cozy wayan sueta bed & breakfast.

I didn't plan any itineracy for my trip as I want it to be stress free and just go with the flow.

So let's start :
11 DECEMBER - I felt anxiety, excitement and fear in me. I guess everybody will feel it upon their first solo traveling. I am also worried that no one will be fetching me for my transfer. However, as I got to my seats, the anxiety and fear slowly relieved. It was a rough 2 hrs 30 mins ride to Bali.

Fluffy clouds that got me even more excited

Reached the Ngurahrai airport

* Do note that for a few countries, you had to go to the VISA counter to pay and obtained your visa. However as for Singaporean, you do not need it. If you are confused as for whether do you need to get a visa or not, just beside the quencing point, there are printed boards with listed countries that need visa. ( DAMN IT, I SHOULD HAD TAKEN A PICTURE OF IT )

After getting my bags and undergoing the inspection process, I got out to the departure hall praying that the driver will be there. Found a driver who had my full name " APPLE YEO HUI JING "! I waved to signal him and quickly ran over to him. He introduce himself as Wayan's cousin and help me with my luggage to the car.

He was an interesting man who had a lot of interest in Singapore and wanted to learn English, Chinese and Hokkien from me. The ride was an 1 hour and 15 minutes to their home stay.

In my next post, I will be talking about my first #AIRBNB experience with Wayan Sueta and family
